# Storage layer The storage adapter owns `active.log`, `snapshot.bin`, the data-directory lock, in-memory live/deleted state, synchronous PUT/DEL writes, startup replay, and compaction. It uses Win32 64-bit file APIs and `FlushFileBuffers`. The binary format is private but versioned. Invalid complete records are never skipped; only an incomplete EOF record is truncated. Snapshot generation must match the active log before snapshot state is trusted.
